One of the best parts about staying at The Dragonfly Cottage is how easy it is to enjoy time on the water. With a private dock, a nearby public launch, and boat rentals that deliver right to you, getting out on Intermediate Lake is simple whether you plan ahead or decide once you arrive.
This guide walks through your options so you can choose what works best for your stay.
Renting a Boat During Your Stay
If you want a hassle-free option, we recommend Northern Lakes Boat Co.
They make it easy by delivering boats directly to our private 88-foot dock, so there’s no trailering, launching, or coordinating pickup locations. Your boat is ready when you are.
Boat Types Available
- Pontoons
- Tritoons
We strongly recommend pontoons or tritoons for Intermediate Lake. Parts of the lake are shallow, and these boats are well-suited for relaxed cruising, swimming stops, and full days on the water without worry.
Rental Options
- Single-day rentals
- Multi-day rentals
If you’re planning to spend a lot of time on the lake, multi-day rentals are a great option so you don’t have to think about schedules once you arrive.
You can learn more or reserve directly through their website:

Using Our Private Dock
Guests are welcome to tie up rented boats directly to our dock. The dock is private, spacious, and designed for easy access in and out of the water.
There are no specific dock size restrictions, but due to the shallow nature of the lake, pontoons and tritoons are the most practical and stress-free choice.
Bringing Your Own Boat
You’re also welcome to bring your own boat if you prefer.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Intermediate Lake has shallow areas, so again, pontoons are recommended
- Intermediate Lake is an all-sports lake and is known to be on elf the best fishing spots
- If you’re unfamiliar with the lake, take it slow at first and get a feel for depth in different areas
If you already own a pontoon, it’s a great fit here.
Which Option Is Best?
- Want the easiest experience?
Rent a pontoon or tritoon and have it delivered to the dock. - Bringing your own boat?
Totally fine — just keep the shallow water in mind and use the nearby launch.
Either way, being on the lake is one of the highlights of staying here, whether you’re cruising, swimming, fishing, or just floating with a drink in hand.
If you have questions before your stay, feel free to reach out — we’re always happy to help you plan your time on the water.
Fishing at The Dragonfly Cottage
Fishing is one of the easiest and most relaxing ways to enjoy Intermediate Lake — and you don’t need to bring much with you to do it.
We provide fishing poles and basic tackle, so whether you’re an experienced angler or just want to cast a line with a coffee in hand, you’re all set.
Best Fishing Spot on the Property
One of the best fishing spots on the lake is right past our dock.
About 10 feet past the end of the dock, the lake drops off sharply to roughly 85 feet deep, creating an ideal spot where fish tend to gather. Guests often have great luck fishing right there without needing to go anywhere else on the lake.
It’s a favorite spot for:
- Early morning fishing
- Evening casts as the sun goes down
- Easy, low-effort fishing without getting in a boat
Fish You’ll Find in Intermediate Lake
Intermediate Lake is known for a healthy mix of fish species, including:
- Bass
- Walleye
- Pike
- Muskallonge
- Panfish (like bluegill and perch)
Whether you’re fishing from the dock or from a boat, there’s plenty of opportunity to catch something. Learn more by reading our fishing on Intermediate Lake Guide.
Fishing From a Boat
If you rent a pontoon or bring your own boat, fishing can be even more fun as you explore different parts of the lake. Just keep in mind that some areas are shallow, so pontoons and tritoons are still the most comfortable option.
Public Boat Launch Information
If you’re bringing your own boat, the nearest public launch is:
Intermediate Lake Openo Rd Boat Launch
- About 3 minutes from The Dragonfly (less than 5 minutes)
- Turn right when leaving The Dragonfly — the launch is at the end of the road
- Easy access, but it can be busy on summer weekends
If you’re launching on a peak summer Saturday, earlier in the morning is usually the smoothest experience.
